What is the Seoul Silver Grass Festival?

The Seoul Silver Grass Festival (서울억새축제) is an annual autumn event held on the silver-grass meadows of Haneul Park, the high hill of World Cup Park in Seoul's Mapo-gu. The 25th edition runs from October 17 to 23, 2026. Entry is free. The festival programmes the meadows with evening light, photo zones and cultural events, but the park itself remains freely open before and after the festival dates.

Festival dates & hours

The 25th Seoul Silver Grass Festival runs October 17–23, 2026, daily 10:00–21:00. These are the event hours for festival programmes and light installations — they are not the park's general opening hours. The park gate itself opens earlier and closes later, and the exact park opening time shifts by month and sunset (roughly 06:00–22:00). If you come only for the silver grass and photos, you can enter before 10:00 or after 21:00 as long as the park gate is open.

How to get to Haneul Park

Take Seoul Subway Line 6 to World Cup Stadium Station (월드컵경기장역), Exit 1. Walk about 15 minutes to the foot of Haneul Park (Peace Park side). From there you reach the summit by the 291 ecological stairs (steep, ~15–20 min) or by the park's eco-shuttle (frog tram) along the upper service road. During the festival the stairs and shuttle get busy, so allow extra time or visit off-peak.

Frog tram (eco-shuttle) fare

Park entry is free; the only paid service is the eco-shuttle that runs up the service road to the upper platform. The 2026 ordinary fare is ₩2,000 one-way and ₩3,000 round trip for adults; children and eligible visitors get a discounted fare. Buy at the on-site ticket booth. Fares, routes and last-departure times are set by the park operator and may change, so check on-site before riding.

Best photo spots

The summit silver-grass field is the signature view — silver plumes against the Han River and the Seoul skyline. Arrive 60–90 minutes before sunset for the best light, and stay for the blue hour after sunset. The boardwalk ring around the meadow keeps you off the turf; never step onto the slope for a photo. Weekday mornings are calmest for unobstructed shots.

Crowd times & tips

Expect the heaviest crowds on weekends and public holidays, especially from early afternoon to evening. The festival's 10:00–21:00 window overlaps peak visitor hours. To avoid queues for the stairs and shuttle, visit on a weekday, arrive in the morning, or come after 20:00 near closing. Wear comfortable shoes, bring water, and watch the wind — the open summit is exposed and cooler than the city below.
